Maj. Malik Nidal Hasan was self indoctrinated,

his conversion to radical violent Islam was a slow process

of conversations, readings and videos.

To be fair to Intelligence agencys there just didn't seem

the evidence to peg him as a threat.

Its like the car accident you were in, if you'd been going

slower, took a different route, done something differently,

etc.

But absent the prescient powers we fall on Monday

quarterbacking.

Of course looking back after the attack there are all kinds of warning signs we see as WE know the outcome.

But taking each in turn, they give very little reason

for concern, he mostly stated what the views of an

extremist are, he doesn't own them, never says

any thing to indicate he is a threat.

Now I've heard people say 'they' heard him say things

that they were concerned about but no indication

they reported it to any Intelligence agency.

And the Intelligence agencys have some culpability for that.

CIA form doesn't seem to even work, and the other agencys

The blame should be placed on the soldier who is willing to follow orders whether the order is to kill Muslims as in Swat, bomb Masjids as with the Red Masjid, or kill women and children as they do in Somalia... YouTube: A terrorist’s friend

Ignorance is not bliss. We have learned that members of the mosque attended by Nidal Hasan are
telling the media that they “have no pity” on the people murdered and wounded by Hasan, and we are
finding out that Hasan was listed as a participant in a Homeland Security Policy Institute’s presidential transition task force last year. Now we are finding out that Hasan worshipped under the same radical Yemini imam as 3 of the 9-11 terrorists. We cannot afford to ignore what is going on in the Muslim world.

There are those who do not understand what I have meant when I have told you that YouTube is supporting, aiding and abetting our enemy. There are those who think I am overstating that.
Please let me show you what I mean, and why we need to hold YouTube’s feet to the
fire for as long as it takes to get them to take responsibility for what they are doing.

According to an article at wired.com the terrorists use YouTube to host their videos so that they don’t have to pay for the bandwidth. In other words, using YouTube’s free services, based in the
United States, enables the terrorists to continue broadcasting their propaganda at no cost. How convenient!

I know you’ve seen videos at YouTube and the hirabist sympathizers who post their “Allah Akhbar!” comments there. But what I want you to see is how these videos are then used in terrorist forums. I
am only going to use one example, but there are many, many more.

The site we’re going to look at is alboraq.com. It is a forum for Mujahideen, and Jihad & Reform front, and others. Here are 3 screen caps of the home page:

On a specific
thread
at al boroq. com (again, this link is anonymized and translated) you
can see that there was a poster who shared multiple videos at YouTube.

Most of those videos have now been removed due to Terms of Use violations, but one is still live at YouTube.

The title of this video is Appeal to the Ansar al-Islam to unite with the Islamic State of Iraq. Ansar
Al-Islam was designated a terrorist organization in 2004, and the Islamic State of Iraq is an umbrella organization of a number of Iraqi insurgent groups established on October 15, 2006. While the video
itself just appears to be an imam talking to muslims, when you understand what he’s appealing to them to do, it becomes quite chilling. Oh – and the little symbol in the lower left of the video? That’s As-Sahab, the media production house of al Qaeda.

For grins, I ran a google search for “youtube.com” at the alboraq.info site, and look what it yielded — LOTS of youtube videos. (If you click the links to look for yourself, you might want to click the
cached version or use a proxy so that you are not exposing your ip
address to them. I would also caution NOT to download items
from terrorist sites as they may have viruses.)

YouTubes terms of service state, in part:

While it might not seem fair to say you can’t show something because of what viewers theoretically might do in response, we draw the line at content that’s intended to incite violence or encourage dangerous, illegal activities that have an inherent risk of serious physical harm or death. YouTube is committing treason, and choosing to ignore this will only result in greater encouragement for more terrorist attacks against our citizens.

Well for one, I think that the Mujahideen can't stop fighting just because of what "might" happen, even if the two Holy Mosques might get bombed. Muslims can't be to blame for such an event, unless they were the ones doing the bombings directly.

Yes, if the Mujahideen used a nuke it would push the world further into war. This would only allow for the Jihad to expand. But I'm not convinced that if the Mujahideen set off a nuke in an American city America would retaliate by using a nuke against a Muslim country. If they did, China, Russia, or even North Korea, or better yet - even Pakistan might nuke America back. I have no doubt that greedy Pakistani leaders would nuke America if they were faced with their own annhilation.

But perhaps if they thought they would get nuked back, the Mujahideen would have to reconsider the plan. However, the Jihad cannot stop at an extent just because an action might drive the middle east into even further chaos. While our lands lack Shar'iah, it should be all or nothing. Plus, hitting the right targets in America or elsewhere could cause the complete collapse of the American government or even the entire United Nations. Maybe the Mujahideen would have a plan to basically nuke/bomb a few sites, cause a disintegration of authority, and then begin a huge insurgency in the West?

He presents a communication-based approach to ethnographic semiotics.

This is a model for interpreting anthropological film. And relates how the same text leads to different interpretations, through context.

In the instant case, “jihad” has become a cultural icon.
In current pop culture, “jihad” has come in the West to refer to violent Muslim actions.
But in a Mosque in traditional Islam it does not refer to Violence.
But the daily struggle to be a "good" Muslim and one's personal quest for Allah.
The terrorist have premuated a new conceived text that encompasses violent actions
in contravention to Allah's word.

The question becomes discrepant decodings among the worlds populations.
Most modern Muslims understand this dual meaning, and decode accordingly.

But some fringe groups and propagandists promote confusion and discrepant decoding and they know difference between conceived text and transmitted text and received text.
And take advantage of that discrepancy for propaganda.

According to Chen, scenarios involving vast amounts of information and data points are ideal challenges for computational scientists, who use the power of advanced computers and applications to find patterns and connections where humans can not. One of the tools developed by Dark Web is a technique called Writeprint, which automatically extracts thousands of multilingual, structural, and semantic features to determine who is creating 'anonymous' content online. Writeprint can look at a posting on an online bulletin board, for example, and compare it with writings found elsewhere on the Internet. By analyzing these certain features, it can determine with more than 95 percent accuracy if the author has produced other content in the past. The system can then alert analysts when the same author produces new content, as well as where on the Internet the content is being copied, linked to or discussed."

I've blogged about this AI project over an year ago, and have been following it ever since while experimenting with link and multimedia analysis of cyber jihadist communities before they were shut down. And while the innovations they've introduced for this period are impressive in terms of drawing social networking maps, the Dark Web's very principle, namely that it's authentication only Web, meaning it's closed for spiders, even human based researchers thought basic invite only or password authentication methods will prompt researchers to adapt in the long-term. Many of the cyber jihadist forums I didn't include in my last external links extraction were great examples of the dark cyber jihadist web, knowing where you crawl doesn't mean there'll be anything publicly available to crawl, and the trend is just starting to emerge. Such VIP clubs represent closed communities where more efforts should be put in taking a peek, thus it's ruining previous efficiency centered approaches of analyzing cyber jihadist communities. The alternatives remain rather contradictive but fully realistic - infecting terrorist suspects with malware, embedding malware within cyber jihadist communities, or unethically pen-testing the cyber jihadist communities to have the AI analyze the data obtained from the closed community, thus the Dark Web, at a later stage.

Despite that there're still literally hundreds of cyber jihadist forums and sites, quantity is not always equal to quality, namely, only a few of these will achieve success and mature into potentially dangerous communities. In the long term, however, once the "tip of the iceberg" communities dissapear, efficiency from the cyber jihadists will get sacrificed for improved OPSEC, namely they'll start operating behind the true Dark Web, making them more difficult and time-consuming to assess, track down, and shut down.
