    American held for 5 yrs

American held for 5 yrs in solitary
    confinement with out Charges. G

"This is an important step in restoring rule of law in America," Hafetz told CBS News at his Manhattan office at the American Civil Liberties Union. "He will finally get his day in court.

Hafetz's attitude stems from the unique circumstances of the case against Ali al-Marri, 43, an alleged al Qaeda operative from Qatar who has spent the past five-and-half years in solitary confinement in the U.S. naval brig in Charleston, S.C., without any charges levied against him.

"The key point is that in America, for 230 years, when we accuse people of wrongdoing, even acts of terrorism, we bring them to trial in our civilian courts. We don't lock them in Navy brigs and throw away the key," Hafetz says.

President Barack Obama reversed one of the most controversial Bush administration policies in the legal war on terror Friday by ordering an end to the indefinite detention of so-called "enemy combatants" on U.S. soil.

The Justice Department announced a new, two-count indictment against al-Marri for allegedly conspiring to provide and for providing material support for al Qaeda, the terrorist organization responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America that left nearly 3,000 people dead.

"Once the President has the power to declare someone 'the enemy,' whether it's acting on behalf of al Qaeda, another terrorist organization, or even any other criminal act, we've basically eliminated the most sacred protections under our system of government: the right to be presented before a jury, the right to be tried before a court of law," Hafetz says.

    He holds dual passports,
    one of which is American.

Help! Someone Hijacked my 100k+ Zeus Botnet!

I've been looking for a similar chatter for a while now, given the existence of a remotely exploitable vulnerability in an old Zeus crimeware releaseallowing a cybercriminal to inject a new user within the admin panel of another cybecriminal.

It appears that this guy has had his 100k+ Zeus botnet hijacked several months ago, and now that he's managed to at least partly recover the number of infected hosts in two separate botnets, is requesting advice on how to properly secure his administration panel.

( Another way to take out bot farms, outside the box!
    still couple more ways.G)

    Insulted

    Insulted
    Gerald: Internet Anthropologist Think Tank
    1.27.09

The Military has expressed the opinion that mass media news
is enough for American Troops, and blocked the troops from
    Blogs.

I found that insulting, short sited and wonder what their
    concept of OSINT is?

    Their motivation feels anti-American, censorship.
    I quote:

AFNOC has imposed bans on all sites with "blog" in their URLs, thus cutting off any sites hosted by Blogspot. Other blogs, and sites in general, are blocked based on content reviews performed at the base, command and AFNOC level ...

The idea isn't to keep airmen in the dark -- they can still access news sources that are "primary, official-use sources," said Maj. Henry Schott, A5 for Air Force Network Operations. "Basically ... if it's a place like The New York Times, an established, reputable media outlet, then it's fairly cut and dry that that's a good source, an authorized source," he said ...

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Public mass news media is a partial picture of the news paradigm.

If you are just reading/watching the "News", then your missing the

    full story.

Whle the mass media are Reliable, the context is generally missing.

I genneraly run the news channels while writing a post.

Some of the news casts, are hosted by idiots.
Some of the news casts aren't, they are gossip and indignation.
Some of the news casters should be whipped.
When Sadam was about to announce, live on TV,
that he was going to release the American guests/hostages,
the news caster cut for commericals...
    Uggh...
He could have changed his mind during the commerical.

Some of the news casters know nothing about the subject.
They are just reading a news monitor and adlibing simple
    cultural myths.

Some of the news casts hide behind netural BS.
    While expressing a hiden agenda.

Maj. Henry Schott, The New York Times printed secret info
about USA listening on Binys Phone calls.

New York Times, an established, reputable media outlet, then it's fairly cut and dry that that's a good source, an authorized source.

My head just SPINS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY.

When the US is doing a good job on the Info War they won't be worried about
what the Troops read, CENSORSHIP won't be an issue.

The news casts will report on Terrorist press releases
like they are factual and balanced, equal to Western
    news stories.

Blogs generally expand the paradigm, turn it upside
down inside out and give an opinion.

Some of the Genius class Bloggers are guides for American
    policy.

Just a few that come to mind.

These Genius Bloggers are blocked from American troops.

The majority of terrorist propaganda sites bend the truth
Lie, and spin news into effective propaganda.
Because their audience doesn't hear the truth.
Doesn't get the truth from the propaganda
    sites.

      This from a Paki forum:

Why should this be a surprise to anyone. The fact of the matter is no matter who is in power, Pakistan was going to let the americans bomb these people. Why should the elected government protect these people when its these same people who dont recognize the writ of the government and are actively working to overthrow it, who just yesterday carried out the assassination of an ANP lawmaker. I say let the Americans bomb these cavemen. Less work for the PAF.

      #2
LOL prehaps you havnt lost a loved one that your making such a comment. They are pakistanis and have every right to fight Government Writ if we allow some foreign country come and bomb and kill children and women and our citizen. We chose to be part of this WoT and than we are complaining that our own people are turning against us. Go ask the father of those kids that were killed by these bombs? i guess he will give you a fine answer.

First of all y does USA need to be here? second of all who are the target of all this? for sure not TTP.

      #3
i was speaking to some pathan freinds the other day and they said the same thing!

they said that Pakistan uses predator to attack them and thats why local population will continue to fight goverment because Pakistan goverment wouldnt ever allow such attacks in punjabi or sindh but allow in NWFP because pathans are considered 2nd class i was shocked!

      #4
Whoa! Lets get one thing straight here....Abu Laith Al-Libi the Al-Qaeda leader they killed in NWFP via these strikes early this month isn't a Pakistani. Neither is Usama Al-Kini nor Sheikh Ahmed Salim Swedan (the guys who planned and carried out the Marriot Bomb blast last year) who they killed in January using the drones. These are people who openly call for the downfall of the Pakistani government and kill Pakistani civilians. Anyone who supports these freaks have shown that they dont give a rats ass about Pakistan. Your telling me its ok for these people to let these foreigners come in and kill Pakistanis? We're just giving them a taste of their own medicine.

We chose to be part of the war on terror because it was high time that we finally took some action against these people. They were willing to risk the integrity of Pakistan for the sake of their perverted views on Islam and hence they deserve no sympathy.

Don't talk to me about dying civilians, when you're completely ignoring the thousands killed by these cavemen every year....this includes our own Pakistani civilians and our own Pakistani soldiers. SWAT the most beautiful part of the country is now a ##### thanks to these people. Just watch the videos on how they use young children to cut the head off a Pakistani soldier and then come to me and whine about justifying their right to fight against Pakistan.
The propaganda is eaisly countered, but the effort is missing, USA is AWOL in the Info War.

    Censorship is counter productive.

    Of course since the Military
    has my blog blocked they
    will never read this.
But the US Senate and Booz Allen Hamilton does.
The censorship makes it feel like they are trying to hide something besides a fear of the WWW, leaves a bad taste.

US Military blinds self to OSINT

US Military blinds self to OSINT
By Gerald: Internet Anthropologist Think Tank
    1.29.09

I don't think this was their intention.
The Military is functioning with an old Internet Paradigm.
And is a great example of the "Law of unintended Conquences".

Because of the 'drive by' SLQ injections they have banned
    Blogs from their networks PC's.

Goggle search results were LOADED with SLQ injections,
for awhile, as many as 9 atempts on one page.

But recently they have managed to shake them,
now there are occasionaly one or two atempts.

    So why block blogs
Blocking Blogs reduces the threat by 1 or 2 %.
And reduces their troops OSINT knowledge by
    30 to 50%.

Internet Anthropologist Think Tank: The Truth

They are relyng on the mass news media....?

They have linited their troops to only mass media..

It sounds like the infection excuse is cover for some

propaganda that some of the troops must have swallowed.

Well if the USA troops need protection from the enemys

propaganda that would be strong evidence for the failure

of US Info War. The US Info War didn't seem to have an

    impact on those troops.

So that leves US with the Question of how effective

the terrorist Info War of Propaganda really is.

And how effective they are at recruitting.

Why is the USA not winning the warfor the hearts and

    minds and the terrorist are.

AFNOC has imposed bans on all sites with "blog" in their URLs, thus cutting off any sites hosted by Blogspot. Other blogs, and sites in general, are blocked based on content reviews performed at the base, command and AFNOC level ...

"Basically ... if it's a place like The New York Times, an established, reputable media outlet, then it's fairly cut and dry that that's a good source, an authorized source," he said ...

AFNOC blocks sites by using Blue Coat software, which categorizes sites based on their content and allows users to block sub-categories as they choose.

"Often, we block first and then review exceptions," said Tech. Sgt. Christopher DeWitt, a Cyber Command spokesman.

    ECO-TERRORIST SENTENCED IN ARSON CASE

    U.S. Department of Justice
    Donald A. Davis
    United States Attorney
    Western District of Michigan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                           CONTACT: HAGEN W. FRANK

    THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2009                                  ASSISTANT U.S. ATTORNEY

    WWW.USDOJ.GOV/USAO/MIW                                    PHONE: (616) 456-2404

MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY ECO-TERRORIST SENTENCED IN ARSON CASE

LANSING, Mich. – Marie Jeanette Mason , 47, of Cincinnati, was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge Paul L. Maloney to serve 21 years and 10 months in federal prison for her role in the Dec. 31, 1999, arson of Agriculture Hall on Michigan State University’s (MSU) main campus in East Lansing, Michigan, as well as for a Jan. 1, 2000, arson of commercial lumbering equipment near Mesick, Mich., U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced.

Mason, who committed the arsons on behalf of the radical environmental group known as the “Earth Liberation Front” (ELF), was also ordered to pay over $4 million in restitution to MSU and to victims of other similar acts of arson in Eastern Michigan and Southern Indiana in which she participated between 1999 and 2003.  Finally, Chief Judge Maloney ordered that Mason remain on supervised release for life upon completion of her prison sentence.

In targeting Agriculture Hall, Mason and her criminal associates had sought to destroy or disrupt federally funded research that was being conducted into genetic modification of crops for the purpose of feeding Third World populations.  In the years preceding the arson, MSU researchers had received approximately $20 million from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  In the view of the ELF, such genetic modification was harmful to the natural environment.

In imposing the sentence, Chief Judge Maloney observed: “We can't let ideas and dialogue be beat by fear and intimidation.”

Commenting on the sentences, Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit field office, stated: “Investigating and preventing criminal environmental extremism is one of the FBI’s highest domestic terrorism priorities.  The FBI will not tolerate any group that terrorizes the American people, no matter its intentions or objectives. The FBI is committed to working with our partners to disrupt and dismantle these movements, to protect our fellow citizens, and to bring to justice those who commit crime and terrorism in the name of environmental issues.”

U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis said: “In the United States, one does not resort to fear and intimidation to make a point or to effect change, but that is what the ELF is all about: violence, arrogance and self-righteousness.  It takes time and effort to effect change legally, because other people and other institutions may have different priorities and different viewpoints.  Rather than engaging those people and institutions with reason in broad daylight, ELF chooses to engage them with fire and violence in the middle of the night.”

Chief Judge Maloney also sentenced two co-defendants of Mason’s in connection with the MSU arson, although on lesser charges that they helped to cover up the fact that Mason and co-defendant Frank B. Ambrose had committed the arson.  Aren Bernard Burthwick, 28, of Detroit, was sentenced to 14 months in prison, one year supervised release and a $2,000 fine; and Stephanie Lynn Fultz, 28, also of Detroit, was sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours of community service.

Previously, on Oct. 20, 2008, Chief Judge Maloney sentenced Frank Ambrose to serve nine years in prison, pay restitution of over $4 million to MSU and victims of other acts of arson and property destruction, and to serve a lifetime term of supervised release after his release from prison.     In imposing that sentence, the Chief Judge took into account Ambrose’s substantial assistance to the FBI in its investigation of the MSU arson and numerous other acts of domestic terrorism committed by criminal environmental extremists.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the MSU Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hagen W. Frank.

    Trilateral meetings, USA, AFGHAN, PAKI

    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Friday, February 27, 2009; Page A04

The United States, Pakistan andAfghanistan will begin regular, trilateral meetings after sessions held among the three nations here this week, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced yesterday.

Talks over the past three days "would have been valuable even if they had simply been bilateral," Clinton said in remarks with Afghan Foreign Minister Rangeen Dadfar Spanta and his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. But the meetings were "especially meaningful" because "we have all been working together," she said, adding that the governments will come together again in late April or early May.

The unprecedented trilateral talks were part of a U.S. effort to encourage cooperation between the neighboring governments over terrorist inroads in both countries. They came as the Obama administration is conducting a strategic review of the foundering Afghan war effort and of its policies toward Afghanistan and Pakistan.

More than 10,000 Taliban insurgents operating in Afghanistan: official

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Afghanistan's Interior Minister Hanif Atmar said here on Friday that some 10,000 to 15,000 Taliban militants are operating in up to 17 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces in the country.

Apart from many Afghans who were recruited for economic reasons, most of the insurgents were foreigners operating with Al-Qaida or Central Asian extremist groups, Atmar told reporters.

Atmar, who is here for a three-way dialogue with the United States and Pakistan on a new "war on terror" strategy, denied the saying that insurgents are rampant. "Terrorist attacks do not represent their strength but indeed their weakness," the minister said.

U.S. President Barack Obama, who vowed to beef up effort to battle against extremism in Afghanistan, has authorized a 17,000 troop increase for war in the country.

Stanford International Bank (SIB) defrauded investors

    BANK

STANFORD FINANCIAL GROUP CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER CHARGED WITH OBSTRUCTION

Stanford International Bank (SIB), had defrauded investors and account holders of an estimated $8 billion in deposits.

WASHINGTON – Laura Pendergest-Holt, the chief investment officer of Houston-based Stanford Financial Group (SFG), was arrested today by agents of the FBI’s Houston Field Office on a criminal complaint charging her with obstruction of a proceeding before an agency of the United States, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division Rita M. Glavin and Special Agent in Charge of the Houston Division of the FBI, Andrew R. Bland, III.

Pendergest-Holt will make her initial appearance on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, before U.S. Magistrate Mary Milloy at the federal courthouse in Houston.

According to the complaint, Pendergest-Holt met on Feb. 10, 2009 with representatives of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) at the SEC’s Fort Worth, Texas, regional office based on an SEC subpoena. According to the complaint, the SEC summoned Pendergest-Holt to testify in its investigation into allegations that SFG and related companies, including the Stanford International Bank (SIB), had defrauded investors and account holders of an estimated $8 billion in deposits.

The complaint alleges Pendergest-Holt made several affirmative misrepresentations to the SEC in order to obstruct its investigation.

Specifically, the complaint alleges that Pendergest-Holt met with several SFG corporate officers in Miami during the week of Feb. 2, 2009, to prepare for her upcoming testimony before SEC staff scheduled a week later. Pendergast-Holt is alleged to have discussed with those corporate officers the SIB’s “Tier III” Portfolio, using a computer-generated pie chart she created. The complaint alleges that the pie chart reflected, among other things, a $1.6 billion loan to a shareholder from the Tier III Portfolio.

The complaint alleges that the following week, on Feb. 10, Pendergest-Holt, accompanied by an attorney, made several misrepresentations under oath to SEC investigators during her testimony, including her alleged failure to reveal that she had participated in the Miami preparation session with SFG corporate officers. Pendergest-Holt also allegedly misrepresented her own preparatory work for the testimony, saying she had met with no one other than the attorney as she worked to ready herself for the session with the SEC.

The complaint alleges further that Pendergest-Holt failed to reveal to the SEC investigators during the testimony session that she was a member of the SIB’s investment committee, or the extent of her knowledge of the bank’s Tier III Portfolio. The complaint also alleges that at no point did Pendergest-Holt reveal that the $1.6 billion loan had been discussed with corporate officers in Miami. When asked by investigators if she served on the SIB limited investment committee, Pendergest-Holt is alleged to have answered “no.”

Pendergest-Holt was interviewed again by SEC investigators on Feb. 17, 2009, in Memphis, Tenn., and, according to the complaint, she continued to obstruct the SEC’s investigation by saying she had no knowledge of the Tier III Portfolio.

The complaint is merely an accusation based on a finding of probable cause by a magistrate judge, and the defendant has not been indicted by a grand jury. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Houston Field Office, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Matthew Klecka and Attorney Allan Medina of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.
