    Hacker Hunters cira 2001

AND THIS WAS 6 YEARS AGO, MANY INTEL SERVICES USE MANY POSSE's NOW, HUNTING INTERNET JAHIDISTS.

Tens of thousands of computers containing now-dormant Leaves worms await instructions from their master. Should they ever again awaken, a posse will be waiting.

    Wednesday, June 20, 2001
    6:30 a.m.
    FBI Headquarters,
    Washington

After 23 years as a CIA analyst, having briefed the president and his team on every conceivable threat to national security, Bob Gerber was scared. More scared than he'd been in a long time.

Holed up in his cramped, 11th floor office on a stark, colorless hallway at FBI headquarters in Washington, Gerber's stomach turned as he took his first look at a new enemy.

Gerber was a hunter, one of the government's best. These days, he was hunting worms, malicious computer programs let loose into the wild of the Internet by some of computerdom's most brilliant hackers. Two months earlier Gerber, 56, had left his job at the CIA, where he helped write the president's daily intelligence briefing, to head the analysis and warning division at the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center. There, he and his crew of more than 60 tracked worms, viruses and other computer evils, as well as the hackers who create them. Both threatened daily to shut down the engines of modern life - electrical power grids, the banking system, water treatment facilities, the World Wide Web.

Worms were the most vicious new beasts to stalk the Internet. But Gerber had never seen a worm quite like the one he confronted that sweltering Wednesday morning in June.

It was named Leaves after "w32.leave. worm," the poisonous file it implanted in unsuspecting computers. Like all worms, Leaves bored through cyberspace, probing Internet connections for holes in personal computers or Web servers. It slithered inside the machines and spewed venomous strings of data that threw its victims into electronic shock.

Leaves was hardly the first worm to infest the Internet. In fact, the pests became so common in 2001, that security cognoscenti dubbed it the "Year of the Worm." Worms wrought all sorts of damage. They forced computers to delete critical files or erase entire programs. They also allowed hackers to steal personal information from computers' memories. Once they infested their victims, worms made clones, then used their hosts as launching pads for more worms, whose numbers grew exponentially.

In 2000, Gerber and his team began battling a new species of even more virulent super worms. Rather than devour computers' innards, these worms hijacked their victims' controls, rendering them powerless zombies. With a gang of zombies at his command, the creator of a superworm could mob a Web site or computer system, flooding it with bogus electronic transmissions until it drowned in the data torrent.

In the spring of 2000, Gerber's colleagues took on a 15-year-old hacker who called himself Mafiaboy. The teenager turned his zombies loose on World Wide Web giants Amazon.com, eBay and Yahoo!, launching what is called a distributed denial of service attack that shut down business at the sites for five hours. It cost shareholders and the companies billions and shocked the Web world.

But compared with the Leaves worm, Mafiaboy's creation was a larva. Gerber's best analysts had worked late into the night trying to make sense of a sample of Leaves captured by worm watchers at the SANS Institute, a computer research center in Bethesda, Md. They let Leaves infect a computer, and then they watched how it behaved. What Gerber saw fascinated and appalled him.

Leaves was a zombie maker on steroids. It searched out computers already wounded by another Internet scourge called a Trojan, which installs back doors in the machines. Leaves used a Trojan called SubSeven as its entrance. Once transformed, the zombies awaited orders. To communicate with them, Leaves' creator ordered his zombies to rendezvous online through Internet Relay Chat channels. He also told them to visit certain Web sites and download encrypted information to receive instructions on what to do next. No one knew who was controlling the zombies, from where or why.

    al Qaeda's Desperate effort

    PARADIGM SHIFT: AQ offers Reward.

al Qaeda's Desperate effort to continue to be relevant.

There is no way to collect the reward.

Sad pathetic terror group kills a civilian unarmed artist? so what?

al Qaeda is delegated to trying to kill civilians in Sweden, that has to be the softest target in the world.

Women children, bombing mosques, market places and now Swedes.

AQ continues to loose status, prestige , new JAHIDIST low.

    G

An Internet audio message said to be from al-Qaida in Iraq offered a $100,000 reward for killing a Swedish artist who caricatured the Prophet Mohammed.

The speaker, who said he was Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, the head of the terrorist group, promised to increase the reward to $150,000 if Lars Vilks is slaughtered like a lamb, the BBC reported.

“Jihadist” Arrested In Dearborn - With AK-47

“Jihadist” Arrested In Dearborn - With AK-47

    September 13th, 2007

Not that you would ever know that from this report in the Dearborn, Michigan Press & Guide:

Man with AK-47 assault rifle arrested after leaving Dearborn’s Hemlock Park

DEARBORN - Houssein Zorkot, a 26-year-old Dearborn resident, was arraigned Tuesday in 19th District Court on multiple felony charges, including carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent — a five-year felony.

Zorkot, a third-year medical student at Wayne State University, was allegedly armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and dressed in black clothing with camouflage paint covering his face when he was arrested Saturday in Hemlock Park.

According to police, Zorkot was observed attempting to leave the park in a black SUV after officers had received reports of a man carrying a rifle in the area. He was placed under arrest and is scheduled to undergo a preliminary examination at 9 a.m. Sept. 21 in 19th District Court.

Zorkot has also been charged with one count of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and one count of felony firearm. He remains in custody on a $1 million bond (cash, no 10 percent).

But searching Google turns up Zorkot.org which features this image and caption:

Whats so different about al Qaeda?

    The NEW al Qaeda boss.

AQ is just another terrorist gang like from the 60's and 70's EXCEPT AQ has the Internet.
    Read on.

Many of the latest crop of 20-something suicide bombers and terrorist suspects in Britain, Germany, India, Bosnia, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Jordan and even Iraq previously were just computer nerds, minor delinquents, would-be engineers, or medical students, often from solidly middle-class backgrounds.

Their ambitious, well-educated parents, typically, had no idea about a radicalization that happened after 2003, often out of their view, in basements as their boys viewed gruesome terrorist videos online, or through hard-line contacts at local mosques, or both.

The three men arrested Wednesday on suspicion of plotting massive bombings to kill Americans in Germany were all 20-somethings whose "hatred of U.S. citizens" drove them to go to Pakistan last year for terrorist training.

That hatred didn't arise in a vacuum. It was driven by expert jihadi propaganda and the confirmatory daily dose of negative news from Iraq. The IntelCenter, a private Virginia outfit that tracks jihadist propaganda, says in a recent report that al Qaeda's As-Sahab Media operation has churned out an average of one video every three days this year, many featuring senior al Qaeda figures.

The production level itself signifies a heavy commitment of resources and energy, but production values also are rising. An Associated Press analysis found increasingly sophisticated formats, dubbing, graphics and other features that show an effort to reach the widest audience possible.

True, Iraq draws its share of opportunists, looters, true believers and simple butchers.

But even worse is the way Iraq is driving al Qaeda wannabes, offshoots and franchisees onto the World Wide Web.

The most important jihadi arrested in Britain recently wasn't one of the suicide doctors or the polite, self-effacing Indian engineer Kafeel Ahmed, who eventually died of his burns after ramming an explosives-laden Jeep into the side of Glasgow's airport on June 30.

No, it was the nerdy son of a Moroccan tourism official whose computer manipulations in the family home in a quiet part of West London caught his own father by surprise. Younis Tsouli never trained in a terrorist camp in Pakistan or anywhere else. He was a homebody who rarely even left the house or his perch before the basement computer.

But at that perch, he apparently perfected the art of terrorist Web-mastering, transforming the amateurish videos of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's Iraq beheadings in Iraq into World Wide Web theater, going by the moniker irhabi007 which roughly translates as Terrorist 007.

Tsouli, who said he repented before drawing a 10-year prison sentence at the Old Bailey

    terrorist + transnational crime organizations

The Decentralized Networks of Terrorism and Transnational Crime

    By Douglas Farah

One of the truly alarming global developments, particularly since the 9/11 attacks, is the growing nexus between organized, transnational criminal groups and terrorist networks.

In a thought-provoking Outlook piece in the Washington Post, Misha Glenny correctly notes the growing role of the poppy trade in Afghanistan in financing the Taliban, as well as attempts at eradication driving recruits to the armed insurgency.

The same holds true in Colombia and elsewhere, where the vast profits reaped by drug traffickers who control transnational shipping networks are enhanced by cutting security deals with terrorist organizations.

    As Glenny correctly observes:

The collapse of communism and the rise of globalization in the late 1980s and early 1990s gave transnational criminality a tremendous boost. The expansion of world trade and financial markets has provided criminals ample opportunity to broaden their activities. But there has been no comparable increase in the ability of the Western world to police global crime.

International mobsters, unlike terrorists, don't seek to bring down the West; they just want to make a buck. But these two distinct species breed in the same swamps. In areas notorious for crime, such as the tri-border region connecting Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, or in the blood-diamond conflict zones such as Sierra Leone and Liberia, gangsters and terrorists habitually cooperate and work alongside one another.
    My full blog is here.

The point this article misses is the most pertinent one, the nexus between Internet crime gangs and Terrorists, its coming and very dangerous.

Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, battleground in global jihad.

    Terror Goes Digital
    By Omar El Akkad
The Globe and Mail | 8/23/2007

Welcome to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia – pivotal battleground in the global jihad.

The town of 7,000 doesn't look the part. Its quietly beautiful downtown lives and dies by tourists. The coastline puts postcards to shame. The New York Islanders have held their training camp here for the past two years. But unwittingly, Yarmouth has become an example of the sort of unassuming places that are serving as relay stations in a virtual war.

The town is home to a branch of Register.com, one of its largest employers and one of the most popular Internet domain-name registration services in the world. For a fee, the company allows users to register website names – the .com, .net or .org addresses you type into your web browser to surf the Internet. Normally, when anyone signs up new domains, they have to provide a name, address and contact information, all of which become publicly available to anyone who's even remotely net-savvy. (The information is copied to one of the central databases that form the backbone of the Internet, to ensure there are no conflicts, such as two separate entities owning the same domain.) But for a few extra dollars, Register.com also offers an anonymous registration service: Try to find out who registered any one of these websites, and you'll be handed the same address and phone number in Yarmouth.

This service is hugely popular: Civil-liberties advocates and anyone else who values their privacy flock to it. But it's also very useful to another group of people, halfway around the globe: On one of the world's largest pro-Hamas websites, viewers can download martyrdom videos that feature the diatribes of masked men shortly before they launch deadly attacks. Look up the registration info for that site, and you'll get that Yarmouth address and phone number.

    Internet Jihadis! help,
    Asalaam'alaykum,

    where are you guys?!
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    wa alaykum salaam,

Some of them are in "Hellmarsh"

    Def:
Hellmarsh . In the 'Golden Age' or the 'Age of Paradise' (~2983 Helmarsh Calendar) it is said that trees would bear fruit without having to cultivate the land or sow the seeds. Winds would carry the seeds, and rivers would cultivate the lands. Humans, spirits and ancient animals roamed the lands of Hellmarsh and lived in harmony. It was the happy times, when every living being would eat, drink, sing, and live a peaceful and contented life. There was no shadow or darkness, and nothing evil scoured the lands.

The enemy is people, not websites.

Well, someone certainly has been struck blind, deaf and dumb...

...the question is: who is more adversely effected, us or them?

The bad guys are sure to find alternative venues to say and do what they want, and those alternative venues may not be nearly as useful to us as the forums are. And so we count this current offensive against jihadi forums as a net loss for our side.

The arguements presented to us by the people involved in this offensive not only fail to convince, they are divorced from reality.

They have told us that because they failed to win the confidence of jihadis via private messages on forums, there is no intelligence to gained from monitoring the private messages on forums, let alone the public statements made on those forums.

For our part we are aware of multiple real-world terrorist plots that were broken up because of the monitoring of those public statements made on forums, and in addition we know for fact that jihadis use the private messaging services of forums to communicate with people they know in the real world. And not just the rank and file jihadis do this - even leading members of terrorist organizations do so.

We have also been told that there is no value in the IP addresses of the jihadis. Why? Because some jihadis some of the time warn other jihadis to use proxy servers to preserve their anonymity.

For our part we have analyzed many thousands of such IP addresses, and we are here to tell you that jihadis don't practice what they preach. Not consistently. And trying to be careful some of the time is simply not good enough. There are jails full of jihadis who have learned that lesson the hard way.

Shutting down websites is a tactic, and done wisely in support of a particular objective it can be a good thing. Done blindly as an end in itself it only serves to breed a resistant pest much like the over-application of insecticide will do.

The enemy is people, not websites, ok.

Websites are a symptom, a sign along the trail, spore you can follow until you bag the game.

But don't worry, it's not like there is anything going on that we need to be concerned about...

    al qaeda "blaster belts" making:

    From a password protected site:
    http://www.moqawmh.com/

They are giving instructions on making "blaster belts" suicide belts for al Qaeda.

    "Hawks Jerusalem"
    08-08-2007, 09:50 AM08-08-2007, 09:50 AM
    Says:
At the outset we must point out that the process of unpacking and installation of belt Blaster need for more than one person as is the case in any other case
This was due to the way it needs technical design belt and that it contains several parts in a variety of means, including : 0

Pregnant or al-Qaeda, which is a manufactured several pockets of fillings explosive channels, as well as electric distribution network and the link between the right and left sides of the pregnant, which is a channel through which electrical wires

As well as assembly points and be the first point of safety and controlled by electric and role in the belt that they preserve the integrity of the martyrdom operation of the package before reaching the target blow

The assembly point is a second operation to detonate the belt Blaster

We would also like to point out here that the number of people working on the installation of belt Blaster three

The first is a technical sewing it is the only capable of breakdown pregnant and pockets and channels of the network of electrical work and all sections needed by the technical design of the first belt

Knowing that only gives specifications sections of the belt Blaster Technician is the electric sewing, which would distribute electrical wires emerging from lightning and assembled at the point of safety and operational point of any fault occurs imbalance inevitably lead to disaster raised very large all goes mentioned not out and know what is expected happen when the explosion belt somewhere before the goal or not the explosion of the belt in place of performance and realism many examples especially in the recent operations

The role explosives expert who is dangerous all the work and preparation must be experts at a high level in terms of explosives Cklitha, quality and type enclaves will bring in terms of size and electrical power needed by the packaging to explode in addition to that,

Who determines the number and sizes smaller enclaves, due to the size of fingers to be packed in pockets belt Blaster

I studied and concludes that, which is the fundamental idea of Blaster belt in the hope of meeting the second lesson, which would be to God here with him next Saturday, because the scheme set to be the way education is a correspondence between myself and all of my inquiry about the point Mansher in the first lesson and I am now waiting for your letters and queries and after waiting a full set points later next lesson will not answer any questions about any lesson outgoing debate, I shall take it from me inquiring about lesson ended inquiry around expelled from the Academy and then the end of each phase will be there test answered through private correspondence and the importance of these lessons is that I want the graduation of a large batch of explosive belts sound engineers

God is reconciling
