Hillary for a Free internet or not, confused

Hillary Clinton Extends Foreign Policy To The Internet And Wants Your Help
In a defining speech today on Internet Freedom, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton extended foreign policy to the Internet, calling it a “global networked commons.” Her speech harked back to Franklin Roosevelt’s famous Four Freedoms speech, and updated each one (Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Worship, Freedom From Want, Freedom From Fear) to apply to the Internet. She also added a new freedom, the Freedom to Connect

USA, Don't brand terrorism with Islam

Pranab Mukherjee, Indian politician, current Foreign Minister.Image via WikipediaKOLKATA: Union External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday expressed vehement opposition to the tagging of terrorism with Islam, saying the idea, floated by the US after the attack on the World Trade Centre, was unacceptable.

"After the twin tower attack, the US floated worldwide the concept of Islamic terrorism. I am vehemently opposed to this." Mukherjee said at a seminar on 'Terrorism and Justice' organised by a Muslim NGO.

Describing Islam as an old religion with numerous followers, Mukherjee said clubbing the religion with terrorism could not be accepted.

    Sir Hugh, CONFUSED

We should talk to al-Qaeda, insists police chief

    Published Date: 31 May 2008
    By Rhiannon Edward
ONE of Britain's senior policemen said yesterday the country should negotiate with al-Qaeda in a strategy to end its campaign of violence.
Sir Hugh Orde, head of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, said he could not think of a single terrorism campaign in history that ended without negotiation.

Sir Hugh, reportedly a front-runner to be the next Metropolitan Police chief, said that 30 years of tackling the IRA convinced him that policing was not enough alone to defeat terrorists.

He said: "If you want my professional assessment of any terrorism campaign, what fixes it is talking and engaging and judging when the conditions are right for that to take place.

"Is that a naive statement? I don't think it is … it is the reality of what we face.

"If somebody can show me any terrorism campaign where it has been policed out, I'd be happy to read about it, because I can't think of one."

Sir Hugh admitted negotiating with terrorists meant "thinking the unthinkable" and said that some of the biggest risks his officers took were talking to people that "historically they would not have dreamed of talking to".

He cited his 2004 meeting with Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams as an example of how one-time enemies can become partners in peace.

Asked if he was saying "we should talk to al-Qaeda", Sir Hugh replied: "I don't think that's unthinkable."

He also called for the number of police forces to be slashed from 43 to nine to better fight terrorism.

Sir Hugh added Irish terrorists still wanted to bomb the UK mainland. They were trying to buy weapons but were disorganised, "psychopathic" and probably numbered no more than 200.

This is prima ficia proof USCIS have no OSINT CAPABILITY, and isn't connected to the counter-terrorism net.

#1) Risk of terrorist being non-Arabic, in USA.

(CBS) U.S. officials are increasingly worried that the next attack on America could be carried out by Americans trained in terror tactics inside al Qaeda's safe-haven in Pakistan, reports CBS News correspondent Bob Orr.

Arrests last month in Barcelona underline the fear. More than a dozen trained suicide bombers - many of them European citizens just back from Pakistan - were taken down as they prepared to launch attacks against transit systems in Spain and four neighboring countries.

"They've realized that if they want to operate successfully, they need to have people who look like us, act like us, and are very difficult to find," said Philip Mudd, a top counter-terrorism official at the FBI.

the bulletin says. The bulletin provides a fresh glimpse of terrorist reports found in computers and disks seized in Pakistan in July. The reports described the casing by terrorists of several buildings in the United States and prompted U.S. authorities to raise the terror threat level earlier this year for high-profile financial facilities in New York, Washington and Newark, N.J. The heightened alert was eased shortly after the Nov. 2 election, and there is no evidence a potential attack ever moved beyond initial planning. "Current intelligence provides no indications that Al Qaeda has operatives to conduct an attack based upon the information in these reports," the eight-page bulletin said. Produced by the FBI and Homeland Security Department, the bulletin was circulated Tuesday to law enforcement, government and industry officials nationwide and obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press. The excerpts, according to the bulletin, show that Al Qaeda operatives go well beyond basic description of a potential target to sophisticated analysis of vulnerabilities in building construction, an examination of potential police and emergency response and recommendations for possible methods of attack. In one report, an unidentified Al Qaeda operative notes that a building "is almost completely made to resemble a glass house %u2014 which could be devastating in an emergency scenario … that is to say, that when shattered, each piece of glass becomes a potential flying piece of cutthroat shrapnel!"

Homeland Security Chief on Threats -

    By James Gordon Meek

On the fifth anniversary of the Department of Homeland Security, its second leader, Michael Chertoff, talked to me about his deepest fears about terrorist threats and why he frets over Europe and Canada more than Mexico. In the interview published Sunday in the New York Daily News, the secretary of Homeland Security said "more than a dozen" people linked to Al Qaeda, Hezbollah and other extremists have tried to enter the U.S. through ports of entry on the northern border, he said, while there have been almost no such attempts at U.S.-Mexico checkpoints.

Aboard his sleek Gulfstream V jet (callsign "Coast Guard One"), Chertoff also discussed America's growing complacency toward terror threats, why racial profiling at airports is "foolish" and explained how terror plots get hyped by some in the government.

The former prosecutor and judge often thrust into the political debate over illegal immigration denied that the Mexican border has been an easy way for Al Qaeda to penetrate the U.S.

"When we've had instances - and there have not been many - where we’ve caught terrorists trying to sneak in, it's been through ports of entry using false documents, and I think we’ve been more concerned about Canada as a platform than Mexico," he said.

Chertoff said "much more than a dozen" stopped at the Canadian border since the 9/11 attacks were connected to "a mix" of terror groups through "either a financial connection, maybe a family connection, maybe communications."

Beware the Morphing of Al Qaeda in Iraq

    By Douglas Farah

One of the fundamental truths of dealing with networks, terrorist or otherwise, is that they will morph quickly to survive and adapt as the environment around them changes.

This seems to be the case in Iraq, where, as we know from captured documents that al Qaeda linked groups there have been badly hurt in recent months.

The strategy may now be to move outside Iraq and wage a different type of war from surrounding countries.

The indicators, as outlined by Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling, are leaders leaving with cash and seeking refuge outside of areas of intense U.S. pressure.

If anyone remembers the drug wars in the Andes in the 1980s and 1990s (which I covered intensely for more than a decade), one will remember the great joy at the felling of the individual cartel leaders (Rodriguez Gacha, Pablo Escobar, the arrest of the Rodriguez Orejuela brothers etc.), and the inevitable statements that these actions would have a significant impact on the amount of cocaine entering the United States.

Of course, the flow of cocaine was never dented at all. The organizations simply regrouped, decentralized, became much more difficult to attack frontally, and business went on. My full blog is here.

Immigration and National Security - Back To The Future

    By Bill West

Two stories have just surfaced in the media that once again demonstrate the direct linkage of immigration issues and national security.

First, we learn the FBI and DHS are concerned about the possibility of Americans or Europeans trained by al-Qaeda in terror camps in the badlands of Pakistan making their way into the United States to conduct attacks against our homeland. US citizens would be able to enter the US on their US passports. European citizens would be able to enter under the Visa Waiver Program wherein citizens of some 27 countries, mostly western and northern European countries, are not required to obtain a US visa to enter the United States as a “temporary” visitor. Combined with this threat, there is a concern that such terrorists will include women suicide bombers more easily able to access their targets, especially women posing as being pregnant to hide their explosive devices.

Next, we have learned the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency will begin to adjudicate (read “approve”) a huge backlog of pending immigration benefit applications and petitions, mostly for permanent residency (“green card” status), before full FBI and other security checks are completed. The given rationale is the vast majority of such applicants pass such checks anyway and those who ultimately do not will have their status revoked and, in the words of a USCIS spokesperson, “will be deported.”

Six plus years from the 9/11 attacks we now have senior counter-terrorism officials of the US Government finally recognizing, albeit somewhat indirectly, the Visa Waiver Program that was originally devised many years ago as a process to expedite international tourism for the travel industry is a genuine national security concern. Some others have been making this warning for quite a while, to include right here in this Blog.

ANY BODY HOME, LIGHTS ARE ON BUT NOBODY HOME.
FBI and DHS both warning of possible impending terrorist attacks in the future in USA.
Both worried about borders and illegals sneaking in, both on high alert.

And European citizens would be able to enter under the Visa Waiver Program wherein citizens of some 27 countries, mostly western and northern European countries, are not required to obtain a US visa to enter the United States as a “temporary” visitor.

    Plus:
the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency will begin to adjudicate (read “approve”) a huge backlog of pending immigration benefit applications and petitions, mostly for permanent residency (“green card” status), before full FBI and other security checks are completed.

One hand locking the door and posting guards and doormen.
and the other hand unlocking the back door, letting EVERYBODY IN.

Makes one proud to be an American.

    Fareed Zakaria, CONFUSED, IRRATIONAL

    Fareed Zakaria

    Fareed Zakaria

Fareed Zakaria was named editor of Newsweek International in October.
    Editor, Newsweek International

He is not in touch with reality, and double talking.

Here is the reality. Iran has an economy the size of Finland's and an annual defense budget of around $4.8 billion. It has not invaded a country since the late 18th century. The United States has a GDP that is 68 times larger and defense expenditures that are 110 times greater. Israel and every Arab country (except Syria and Iraq) are quietly or actively allied against Iran. And yet we are to believe that Tehran is about to overturn the international system and replace it with an Islamo-fascist order? What planet are we on?

    WHAT PLANET IS FAREED ON?

    Iran's nuke.

On April 10, 2007, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered his long-promised message "that will gladden all Muslims" at Iran's Nuclear Day festivities.

Ahmadinejad: Iran Now Producing Nuclear Fuel on an Industrial Scale

With regard to the number of centrifuges at Natanz, Larijani said, "The number of centrifuges doesn't matter. But we have a work output of 3,000 centrifuges. This level and above is considered industrial..." ( ok 3,001 would be considered INDUSTRIAL )

Iranian Atomic Energy Organization director Gholam Reza Aghazadeh... He said, "Iran's program is not to install and operate only 3,000 centrifuges at the Natanz uranium enrichment facilities, but 50,000... We planned and invested for [the installation of] 50,000 centrifuges. The infrastructure that has been established – including equipment for air filtering, electricity, a new air supply, and everything required for this industry – was for 50,000 centrifuges...and in the past year our young scientists have managed to produce 270 tons of UF6....This is the accomplishment of some 3,000 expert scientists and the best of the forces that worked in the past year night and day at the Natanz facility." ( 3,OOO SCIENTISTS DAY AND NIGHT, FOR FUEL? or a nuke? )

In an April 10 lecture on the current state of Iran's nuclear dossier to students and lecturers at Babol University , Hossein Shariatmadari, editor of the Kayhan daily said, "A country that has attained the knowledge and technology of uranium enrichment is only one step away from producing nuclear weapons. This [additional] step is not a scientific or a technical step, but a matter of political decision. ( IRAN IS BUILDING A NUKE )

Kayhan: "The West Must Expect a Shock from Iran at Any Moment"
    (A KOREA NUKE TYPE TEST?)

In an April 10, 2007 editorial headlined "Strategy of Ambiguity," Kayhan noted that since Iran had reached the point of no return in its nuclear program, it could shape its nuclear program in accordance with its political aspirations. The paper said that Iran was now acting far from the eyes of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and that this will enable it to surprise the West – which should at any moment expect an earthshaking announcement from Iran.

...the eyes of the IAEA – the intelligence agency of the West – are finding it more difficult every day [to monitor Iran's activities].... When sanctions resolution 1747 was passed, Iran further reduced IAEA access [to its nuclear facilities] by stopping the implementation of the agreements connected to the 'Safeguards Agreement.'

The path is completely clear... From now on, Westerners must expect a shock from Iran at any moment. It is true that our hands are tied in the Security Council, ....But the Westerners must not forget that Iran's hands are completely free in its nuclear facilities, and that any sanctions resolution in New York... accelerates our technological progress at Natanz. The new surprise has begun...

Tehran Times Editor: Recognize Iran's Nuclear Rights – Or "The World Will Again Witness the Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons" ( IF WE DO NOTHING THEY WILL HAVE A NUKE, USA HAS NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO STRIKE THEM )

In an article in the Iranian daily Tehran Times, which is identified with Iran's Foreign Ministry, Pervez Ismaili, who is also the editor-in-chief of the conservative Iranian news agency Mehr, stated that the West must recognize Iran's nuclear rights, because Iran had reached the point of no return in its nuclear program. The following are the main points of the article, in the original English:

"...What happened in Iran on Monday provides a great opportunity for the international community. In the current situation, particularly since the 1990s, all nuclear tensions are focused on the idea that there is only a short distance between attaining the expertise required for gaining access to the complete nuclear fuel cycle to produce nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes and using that ability to produce nuclear weapons…( JUST KEEP centrifuges RUNNING FOR MORE CYCLES = WEAPONS GRADE )

"However, the West's severe reaction to Iran's transparent nuclear measures will certainly encourage developing countries to limit transparency or even to establish secret underground installations and eventually withdraw from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in order to maintain their national interests… If the international community fails to resolve the current crisis as soon as possible by accepting Iran's model, the world will again witness the proliferation of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the near future, regardless of the outcome of the confrontation with Iran ( TRANSLATION: ACCEPT IRAN WILL HAVE NUKES, EVEN IF YOU BOMB IRAN, SO DON'T BOMB US )

USA ISRAEL DON'T HAVE MUCH CHOICE.

IF THEY HIT IRAN, IT STOPS DEVELOPMENT, TAKE OUT LEADERSHIP, MAYBE CHANGES IRAN'S COURSE, EITHER WAY IT BUYS SOME TIME.

    GERALD
NOT TO MENTION THE 13TH IMAM

This will sound alarming. A literal reading of Ahmadi-Nejad’s UN address suggests that he is predicting a total war coming soon.

The key is in his invocation and his conclusion. Normal official communications by Muslims start with, “In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.” A’jad followed that formula immediately with:

“Oh God, hasten the arrival of Imam Al-Mahdi and grant him good health and victory and make us his followers and those who attend to his rightfulness.” [italics in the official Iranian version]

Sounds like a pretty standard invocation, but it’s not. It is a specific call for the Shiite Messiah, who will bring a final holy war, the final jihad, which in the Khomeini cult implies all-out war with the infidels to bring about the Millenarian Age of Paradise on Earth. (For Khomeini, the term “infidels” includes Sunni Muslims, who do not recognize the Mahdi). That is why Khomeini started the nuclear program twenty years ago, and why it has been pushed consistently by all the major cult leaders.

    SEEMS VERY CLEAR TO ME.

    DR. WHO?

WHAT DOES IRAN DO WITH A NUKE?

Big problem with USA's nuke paradigm.
