Commerce Department WORKING FOR CHINESE SPYS

The administration's new approach is part of an overall drive to
require licenses for the export of an expanded list of technologies in
aircraft engines, lasers, telecommunications, aircraft materials and
other fields of interest to China's military.

But while imposing lisence requirements for the transfer of those
technologies, the administration is also validating certain Chinese companies that may import these technologies without licenses. (WTF)

The Commerce Department says that, out of $55 billion in American
exports to China in 2006, only $308 million were items requiring licenses to make sure the Chinese military could not use them.( BRAIN DEAD )


'China is a huge market for our commercial technology exports,' said
Mr. Mancuso. 'Yet there are very real security risks we are mindful
of. We take that concern very, very seriously.' Only those CHINESE companies
that have 'a demonstrable record of using sensitive technologies

China taps into U.S. spy operations

China's intelligence service gained access to a secret National Security Agency listening post in Hawaii through a Chinese-language translation service, according to U.S. intelligence officials.

The spy penetration was discovered several years ago as part of a major counterintelligence probe by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) that revealed an extensive program by China's spy service to steal codes and other electronic intelligence secrets, and to recruit military and civilian personnel with access to them.

According to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity, China's Ministry of State Security, the main civilian spy service, carried out the operations by setting up a Chinese translation service in Hawaii that represented itself as a U.S.-origin company.

The ruse led to classified contracts with the Navy and NSA to translate some of the hundreds of thousands of intercepted communications gathered by NSA's network of listening posts, aircraft and ships.

NCIS agents discovered that the translation service, which officials did not identify by name, had conducted contract work for the National Security Agency facility at Kunia, an underground electronic intelligence post some 15 miles northwest of Honolulu that conducts some of the U.S. intelligence community's most sensitive work.

Somebody 'Splain' how I'm wrong

Walmart is importing $75 tp 50 Billion USD in Chinese goods and toys.

Some of the toys had lead in the paint, as a kid I used to play with solid lead soldiers.

And recently it was discovered some of the beads on the kids toys just happen to be date rape drug.

They apologized for the toxic toys and recalled them all???

We caught the Chinese smuggling date rape drugs as beads on kids toys and no one got busted?
They let them recall the drug toys....

Boy I guess the Colombians missed this one, make toys out of cocaine and if you get caught just recall the drugs, ahhh ahemm "TOYS".

I'm sure my facts must be wrong there is no way the USA Gov. would let the Chinese smuggle drugs and give the drugs back.

On Wednesday, wire services reported that a senior Chinese official charged foreign intelligence services of causing "massive and shocking" damage to his country through computer espionage.

A vice minister of the Information Industry, Lou Qinjian, did not identify any culprit by name, but he did state that 80% of the computers used in the attacks were based in America. Beijing's accusation came suspiciously only after months of reports of Chinese hacking into Western government information systems.

President Bush had been expected to raise the issue with his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, during their 90-minute meeting in Sydney last Thursday. The two leaders had time to discuss a wide range of topics, including China's role in Sudan and Iran. They even found a few moments for a friendly chat about next summer's Olympics.

Mr. Bush, however, was not anxious to talk about the recent Chinese hacker attacks against U.S. government networks. The Pentagon suspects that China's People's Liberation Army successfully penetrated an unclassified computer system serving the office of Defense Secretary Gates this June.

The system was shut down after the perpetrators had obtained information, some of it sensitive. The Pentagon attack followed ones last year in July on the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security, in November on the Naval War College, and in December on the National Defense University. In the spring of last year, China accessed State Department computers and installed backdoors in networks to siphon off information on China and North Korea.
