    #GOPsobOUT

    More of our INTEL

Spell it out loud, now shout it out.
    WHY?

    Gerald center, floor NYSE

No money for Social Security and Medicaid and Medicare?

GOP want to kill those services promised by the Federal Government.

But there was the 2 Trillion the Federal Reserve gave the Wall St Banks.
There was one Trillion additional bail out by US Government For Wall St Banks
And for Wall St Bank Billionaires GOP gave them another $700 Billion
in TAX cuts. And the GOP made sure there is no FBI investigation
of these "TOO BIG TO FAIL WALL ST BANKS" now have
full US Government backing against failure and given a federal
    license to commit crime.

The same Wall St Banks that ran the sub-prime scam bilking trillions
of dollars from world investors selling "D" grade paper as "AAA"
Same Wall St Banks, are defrauding current home owners in fraudulent
foreclosure kangaroo courts. Even defrauding active military personnel
    in combat theaters.

GOP also approved Wall St Bank Loan sharking, 30% on Credit cards,
460% on pay day loans, while loaning them money at Federal Reserve
    window at 1% ( ONE DAM PERCENT, G )

BUT NO DAMN MONEY FOR SOCIAL PROGRAMS.

    FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS FOR
    CRIMINAL WALL ST BANKS.
    That brought on this recession/depression.

BUT GOP SAYS NO MONEY FOR AMERICANS.
JUST FOR OUR BILLIONAIRE BANKING BUDDIES.

    BULL SHIT:

    NO SOCIAL SECURITY
    NO MEDICARE
    NO MEDICAID

Obama:  He said the Republican proposal assumes that "even though we can't afford to care for seniors and poor children, we can somehow afford more than $1 trillion in new tax breaks for the wealthy," he said, later adding, "That's not right, and it's not going to happen as long as I'm president."

If he is referring to the Bush tax cuts, they are not a new tax break. They have been in place almost ten years.

Extending the current tax policy does not mean that the government will pay out $1t to rich people. It also does not mean that the government will be $1t short its current funding.

The most accurate way to describe it is as an opportunity cost. We can either have the same revenue we have now or we can have $1t more in revenue over x years. Assuming there are no (un)intended consequences.

The x years is important. In Obama's most recent proposal it would be over 12 years, in previous estimates it was ten years. That breaks down to around $100b a year, which doesn't sound too radical but we are running yearly deficits of $1.4t.

If we seized all of the assets of the billionaires in the USA, that would be around $1t. What would we do the next year?

If we pulled out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Libya and raised taxes like Obama wants, we would still have a deficit.

We can't tax our way out.

No cuts are easy. There are many good programs and everyone has their sacred cows.

I don't agree with the GOP stereotypes you bring up. Mostly because the Dems are just as tied up with banks and rich people as the GOP. Also, let's not forget the Dem's controlled both houses of congress from 2006-2010.

Obama has also been proposing cuts to medicaid, medicare, and other programs for the poor.

Anyways, I enjoy your blog. Just thought I would take the opportunity to take part in the partisan exercise.

Every 100 billion helps, my major outrage is GOP helping billionaires and in effect killing the poor, and they will die without the safety net,G

I disagree with the characterization of "killing the poor". I do agree that there needs to be a safety net for the elderly.

Any changes to SS, Medicare, and Medicaid shouldn't affect anyone who is retiring in the next 20 years. I think Ryan's plan kicks in in 10 years, which really doesn't give people time to change their retirement plans.

The sad thing is that Ryan's plan would cut $600b a year and we would still have a deficit. Add in Obama's tax plan at $100b a year and we still have a deficit.

Things would change a lot if we were not in 4 wars and unemployment was at 6%.

I can sympathize with your views about the GOP's ties to big business and the uber wealthy. I have similar views about the same ties between those groups and the Dems.

Obama proposed cuts to the heating program. http://www.flatheadbeacon.com/articles/article/obama_proposes_cuts_in_low-income_heating_assistance/21949/

"The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will see its funding cut from $5 billion to $2.5 billion under Obama’s proposal."

Obama cut around $500b from medicare in the Obamacare legislation. Obama also proposed cutting $480b more from Medicare and medicaid over 12 years in his last budget proposal.

Obamacare rations health services. Remember Obama didn't want women to get mammograms until they were 50?

Would that mean that Obama and the Democrats have blood on their hands?

Republicans blocked extending unemployment benefits beyond 99 weeks. I am sympathetic to extending them but it should also be recognized that people can collect unemployment for nearly two years.

Republicans proposed a cut to the SS administration but not to SS itself.

Long term proposals to bump the minimum age eligibility seem to be better than cutting actual payments. But none of the proposed changes would affect anyone getting SS now.

I haven't seen any proposed cuts to minimum wage but I don't agree with the proposed cuts to food stamps. A cap on food stamps seems reasonable though.

The reality is that we spend more money than we take in. That raising taxes alone won't solve the problem. Maintaining SS, Medicare, and Medicaid when the boomers all retire will require cuts in other programs even if we raise taxes.

All of the programs we spend money on are generally "good" but there are more worthy causes than we have money.

Thanks for your time. Keep up the good work.

Social safety nets shouldn't be cut during a big recession.
