Benazir Bhutto's husband, Asif Zardari, dismissed government claims of al-Qaida involvement in his wife's assassination, accusing officials of a cover-up and comparing it to the death of John F Kennedy. "I think soon the chickens are going to lay their eggs and we will blame them on al-Qaida," he told the Guardian at the family home in Naudero. "Al-Qaida has nothing to fear; why would they fear us? Are they our political opponents?" he said.

The source of the claim was apparently Italian news agency, Adnkronos International (AKI), which said that al Qaeda Afghanistan commander and spokesman Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid had telephoned the agency to make the claim.

"We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahadeen," AKI quoted Al-Yazid as saying.

According to AKI, al Qaeda No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri set the wheels in motion for the assassination in October.

More lies from the Terrorist Propaganda rag mathaba. This is how the Info war is fought.

In an online poll conducted by Mathaba News following the assassination of Pakistan female opposition leader Benazhir Bhutto, results show only 20% of readers believe Al-Qaida is responsible.

22% of those voting held Musharaf, the current leader of Pakistan responsible, while 48% thought the C.I.A. had the leader assassinated.
