    Musharraf says: reconciliation

    Musharraf says:
He said he favours talks with the Taliban as they are suffering much more casualties than the Afghan or coalition forces. “It may work it may not work. But there is no harm in talking and good sense may prevail.”

( TALIBAN CASULTIES ARE VERY HEAVY IN PATKI AND AFGHAN, SECRET OPS UNDER WAY )

“If you want reconciliation, you have to overlook the past. That is the only way to reconcile, otherwise, you remain on a confrontationist mode.”

Speaking about the situation in North Waziristan, Musharraf said it was very sad. The troops while trying to clear a road block in the area were taken hostage by the miscreants as they (troops) thought that a ceasefire was in place. “They acted unprofessionally. They should have taken some precautionary measures.”

He said the government was trying to address the situation through negotiations but he does not know how long it will take to resolve. “We have to deal with the situation from a position of strength. I think we will reach a solution.”

About Washington’s desire to do more in the war against terror, Musharraf said elements in Washington and the media do not know what he was up against in the fight against terrorism, which has a multi-pronged approach of action and development in the troubled areas.

He lamented that Washington had promised $150 million per annum over the next five years for the development projects in those areas but has not paid a penny over the past one year. “Those who talk (of not doing enough) should better look at what they are doing to support us in executing what we are doing.”
