New Delhi, May 26: THE Jama Masjid United Forum (JMUF), a forum launched by Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari’s brother, Yahya Bukhari, today held a seminar, Islam on Terrorism, in the run-up to an international conference in October this year, 2007.
Speaking on the occasion, Yahya Bukhari sought to quell the impression that Islam promotes violence or terrorism. Quoting the Quran, Yahya said: “If you say some Muslims are involved in terrorism, we can accept it but it is unacceptable and unforgivable to liken Islam with terrorism”.
Yahya said it was not Islam or religion but ghurbat (poverty) and jehalat (illiteracy) which was leading to terrorism. He appealed to people to fight terrorism collectively. “Terrorism can only be dealt with if the perpetrators of terrorism are brought to justice and at the same time the innocent are not allowed to suffer.”
Social activist Swami Agnivesh ascribed the rise of terrorism to the abuse of religion and politics. “The deadly cocktail of religion and politics is spreading terrorism,” said Agnivesh, who criticised narrow-minded religious leaders for spreading hatred.
BUT there is a connection between Islam and the terrorists, they are Muslim.
