While the mainland and Anatolia were occupied for a time, it didn't stick. Alexander and the diadochoi made short work of that, and soon found themselves chasing skirt in Afghanistan and Pakistan.<br /><br />And while Rome traded border towns and an occasional province back and forth with Persia for five or six centuries, in the end late Roman Emperor Heraclius decisively conquered Persia -- only then to lose both Persia and half his own empire to the Arabs in the mid-7th c.<br /><br />Moral? Belligerence and territorial expansion westward seldom served the long-term interests of the noble Persians.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
